BROOKVILLE, In. – The Batesville Bulldogs came into their Indiana Class 3A Sectional 30 playoff matchup with Franklin County Friday night seeking payback.

And payback is what they got, as Batesville outlasted the Wildcats 28-21 to move on, while also avenging a 31-17 loss on Oct. 11 to their Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference rival. Bulldogs senior Gage Pohlman ran for a 145 yards and a pair of scores. He upped his school record to 3,655 career yards rushing. Pohlman and his teammates now look to capture their second straight Sectional title and 11th in program history.

Batesville jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter, and went into halftime up 14-7 over the Wildcats, who had won five straight coming in to Friday night. The Bulldogs took control in the third quarter, running their lead up to 28-7, and a fourth-quarter comeback by Franklin County – led by QB Quinn Gillman, who was 21 of 38 for 369 yards, three touchdowns but four costly interceptions – fell just short.

Franklin County finishes their season at 7-4, while Batesville moves to 7-3 and will host 10-1 Lawrenceburg for the Indiana Class 3A Sectional 30 title next Friday. The Bulldogs fell to Lawrenceburg, 24-0 in Week 6 of the regular season.
