Batesville Repeats as Sectional Champions

BATESVILLE, Indiana – It was a joyous night in Batesville as the Bulldogs avenged a Week 6 shutout loss to Lawrenceburg earning the programs second straight Sectional championship. It is the first time that Batesville has won back-to-back sectional crowns since 2005-06 (they won six in a row from ‘01-’06) and the 11th Sectional title in school history.

Running back Gage Pohlmam, Batesville’s all-time leading rusher, ran for a score and was on the receiving end of a 40-yard flea-flicker touchdown pass from classmate Alex Krekeler in the first quarter. That was all the cushion the Bulldogs defense would need as they came up with timely takeaways and fourth down stops all night long, to end Lawrenceburg’s 10-game winning streak.

Batesville started the season 4-0 then lost three of five entering the playoffs. The Bulldogs defense has turned it on in the postseason with their best scoring defense of the year allowing just 9.3 points per game in the playoffs.  Batesville has only won one regional title and it was back in 1996.
