Cincinnati Round-Up: Big Blue, Harrison dominate
- Updated: November 1, 2024
Hamilton won a playoff game for the second straight season and St. Xavier dominated Milford in our Cincinnati Round-Up.
DIVISION I, REGION 4
NO. 5 HAMILTON 28, NO. 12 OAK HILLS 0
Hamilton jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and were never threatened in a big first round win over Oak Hills on Friday night. The Big Blue won a playoff game for the second consecutive season and advanced to a second-round matchup next week. Gracen Goldsmith did his typical damage on the ground to lead Hamilton to win with a potent rushing attack. The senior tailback had several explosive plays on his way to a big night on the ground. Senior wide receiver RJ Shepherd caught two first have touchdowns and quarterback Antonio Mathis rushed for a score as Hamilton took command in the first half.
The Hamilton defense was led by CJ Bryant who was swarming as a linebacker all night long. Carter Isaacs recovered a fumble, and Trey Verdon was stout on the defensive line for the Big Blue. Hamilton will get a GMC re-match with Princeton next week.
NO. 6 ST. XAVIER 41, NO. 11 MILFORD 0
St. Xavier led 28-0 at the half and ran past the Milford Eagles the rest of the way for a first-round playoff win at RDI Stadium on Friday night. The Bombers scored 14 points in both the first and second quarters to build their lead in front of a packed house. Chase Herbstreit threw three first half touchdowns to lead the charge. Herbstreit found Logan Von Holle, Jake Britt, and Matthew Hoerst for scores in the half in a potent passing effort. Daniel Vollmer also rushed for a score in the first half to produce the 28-0 halftime lead.
The St. Xavier defense gave no breathing room to the Eagles all night long as they made it hard for Milford to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. The Bombers secured a shutout of the Eagles and advanced to face third seeded Winton Woods in the second round.
