NKY Round-Up: Raiders keep winning
- Updated: November 1, 2024
The Raiders and Colonels picked up big wins to close out the regular season in our NKY Round-Up.
NO. 10 RYLE 42, DIXIE HEIGHTS 27
Nathan Verax and Jacob Savage led Ryle to a big win over Dixie Heights on Friday night. The Ryle offense was clicking on all cylinders and was too much for Dixie Heights to overcome in the loss. Verax led the offense to efficient scoring drives with precision passes and timely rushes from the pocket. Savage was the main threat on the ground as he led the rushing attack in the win.
The Colonels continued to give up a plethora of points to their opponents as their defense could not get a beat on the Raiders offense. Armani Gregg had a solid game offensively for the Colonels, but it was not enough to threaten Ryle on the night. Dillon Smith led Ryle on defense by making big tackles all night long.
NO. 13 COVINGTON CATHOLIC 42, CAMPBELL COUNTY 28
Covington Catholic came out swinging and delivered an early knockout of Campbell County on Friday night. The Colonels jumped out to a big lead and were never in jeopardy of losing against the Camels. CovCath raced to a 42-0 lead and got contributions from just about everyone on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Cash Harney was at the forefront of the onslaught for the Colonels. Harney rushed for two scores and passed for two scores during the early barrage of points. His two passing touchdowns were to Oliver Link. Running back Dylan Gaiser also rushed for two touchdowns to produce the 42-0 lead.
POSTGAME INTERVIEW: Eddie Eviston, Covington Catholic
The Camels scored on the opening play of the second half and added a second score in the third quarter after getting an interception. Still, it was not enough to produce a comeback against the Colonels. Campbell County would tack on two more touchdowns against the second unit of the Colonels to make the final margin.
