Ryle rolls past Louisville St. X
- Updated: November 16, 2024
UNION, KY – The Ryle Raiders were looking for payback after a close loss to Louisville St. X on October 4th, and they got it and then some. Ryle set the tone early and often en route to a dominating win over the Tigers, rolling on to the Class 6A regional final.
With the win over St. X, Ryle becomes the first team not named Male or Trinity to eliminate the Tigers in postseason competition since 2001 (Meade County).
It was over before it even began for St. X, as Ryle’s junior running back Jacob Savage took the opening play from scrimmage 80-yards to the endzone. After just eight minutes had passed in the contest, the Raiders already held a commanding 17-0 lead over the Tigers.
St. X’s opening drive of the game was a sign of bad things to come, as quarterback Mason Trimble fumbled the ball away at his own 36-yard line, setting up the Ryle offense with great field position. Junior Raiders quarterback Nathan Verax took a designed QB run up the middle 28 yards to the house.
Savage continued his impressive performance, tacking on a second rushing touchdown in the second quarter, running outside the numbers 13 yards to the endzone. This score pushed the Raiders league to almost 20, and it wasn’t even halftime yet.
Just before halftime, Ryle was able to put the game on ice and all-but guarantee their trip to the regional finals. Verax found senior wideout Landon Lorms for a 12-yard score.
Savage ended his day with three different rushing touchdowns, as the Raiders were able to secure their first victory over St. X in program history.
UP NEXT: Ryle (10-2) will host Central Hardin (4-8) next Friday night in the 6A regional finals.
