2025 Snapshot: Boone County

Times have been tough on the football field for Boone County and getting out of that funk is going to take some big efforts in 2025. The Rebels have had 13 straight losing seasons. Their last winning campaign was in 2011 when they went 9-4 and finished in the Class 6A final four. Since that time they have gone a combined 21-115 (.154 winning %) and missed the last five playoffs (and that is hard to do in Kentucky).

Second year head coach Daniel Court is still facing an uphill battle for the program. “We lost a lot of starters who graduated including our quarterback, leading rusher, three offensive linemen, our middle linebacker and all five defensive backs. We will have some experience leading the team, but we will be replacing our voids with a lot of young guys. We will have an open quarterback battle this summer to determine a starter between two juniors and a senior.”

Court has the demeanor that is needed to pull this program out of the abyss. He feels things are headed in the right direction. “We have had a great offseason so far with high energy and positivity building off of what we started a year ago, in my first year as the head coach.”

The veterans on defense will need to lead the way early in the year as a “green” offense finds itself. There are opportunities at the skill positions on offense and that will lead to competition. Those players hunger to prove that they are worthy of snaps on Friday nights will be cherished as the season wears on. If Boone County takes pride in and thrives on, those daily battles in practice, good things will come of it. That could very easily lead to the Rebels collecting their most wins in 14 years and first playoff appearance since 2019.
