CINCINNATI – A 21-point second quarter helped St. Xavier to shake off the rust from a two-week layoff and spur them to a 42-7 victory over Lakota East Friday night.
After falling behind early 7-0 to the Thunderhawks, the Bombers reeled off 42 consecutive points – led by three touchdown runs by running back Daniel Vollmer – to roll to the victory.
Vollmer would finish the night with 83 yards on the ground to go with his three scores, and the St. Xavier defense would put the clamps on Lakota East, picking off Thunderhawk QB Nile Knutson three times on the night – one being a Pick-Six by Bomber DB Jax Hendon.
The St. Xavier victory moves the Bombers to 8-2 on the season and sets up a showdown next Friday night with Greater Catholic League rival Moeller in the regional semifinal. Lakota East finishes the season 8-4.
