Sam Hughes of Simon Kenton has been voted the Week 1 Mella Window & Carpet Cleaning Player of the Week, earning 40.18 percent of the votes cast by fans at TriStateFootball.com.
Hughes earned his spot on the Week 1 ballot after hauling in seven receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns as the Pioneers opened the 2026 season with a 42-13 victory over Dixie Heights.
The Simon Kenton junior edged out Levi Guttman of Cincinnati Country Day and Deon Bradford of Western Brown in the voting. In total, 15 players were nominated for the season’s first award, with 14,426 votes cast.
