Blitz 5 Top 25: Week 7

There are only five teams in the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com that remain unbeaten after six games. One of those squads is No. 2 Elder who hosts No.1 Moeller in this week’s Blitz 5 Game of the Week and it’s for the GCL South title. It will be the second time in the last three contests that the Crusaders have faced the second ranked team in the poll.

Week 7 features three other battles between Top 25 teams in our rankings – No. 12 Covington Catholic is at No. 5 Highlands; No. 16 Middletown is at #14 Lakota East and No. 17 Mason is at No. 18 Fairfield

Here’s the Blitz 5 Top 25 for Week 7:

1. Moeller (5-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #7 LA SALLE (4-2, 0-2), 42-7. Freshman Juice Glover-Brown busts onto the scene with 129 yards and two touchdowns rushing against the Lancers. NEXT UP: 10/3 – at #2 Elder (6-0, 2-0).

2. Elder (6-0, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at #2 St. Xavier (4-1, 0-1), 23-13. The Panthers are 6-0 for the first time since 2001. The next three teams they face are all currently 5-1. NEXT UP: 10/3 – #1 MOELLER (5-1, 2-0).

3. Anderson (6-0, 5-0) – LAST WEEK: beat MILFORD (1-5, 1-4), 63-0. The Raptors have a 40.2 point average margin of victory. NEXT UP: 10/3 – at Turpin (4-2, 4-1).

4. Princeton (5-1, 5-0) – LAST WEEK: won at then #13 Mason (3-3, 3-2), 35-21. The Vikings defense has only produced two turnovers all year. NEXT UP: 10/3 – HAMILTON (1-5, 1-4).

5. Highlands (5-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Harrison County (1-5, 0-1), 53-0. Since 2016, the Bluebirds are 2-10 versus CovCath but they have won two of the last three in the series. NEXT UP: 10/3 – #12 COVINGTON CATHOLIC (4-2, 1-0)  .

6. St. Xavier (4-2, 0-2) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #4 ELDER (6-0, 2-0), 23-13. Friday’s opponent, Trinity, has its only loss to top ranked Moeller and by just three points . NEXT UP: 10/3 – LOUISVILLE TRINITY (KY) (5-1).

7. Kings (5-1, 4-1) – LAST WEEK: won at then #20 Lebanon (4-2, 3-2), 38-20. Nathan Tucker, Andrew Lyman and Jaxon Frisk combined to catch 21 balls for 400 yards and five touchdowns against Lebanon. NEXT UP: 10/3 – at Little Miami (1-5, 1-4).

8. Winton Woods (5-1, 4-1) LAST WEEK: LITTLE MIAMI (1-5, 1-4), 35-7. The Warriors have yet to give up more than 17 points in a contest. NEXT UP: 10/3  – LOVELAND (2-4, 2-3).

9. Taft (6-0, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: won at #19 Withrow (4-2, 0-1), 39-0. The Senators shutout the last three teams that they have faced by a combined score of 159-0. NEXT UP: 10/3 – HUGHES (3-3,  0-1).

10. La Salle (4-2, 0-2)LAST WEEK: lost at #1 Moeller (5-2, 2-0), 42-7. The Lancers have now lost five straight to rival Moeller. NEXT UP: 10/3 – RONCALLI (IN)(4-2).

11. Ryle (3-3) – LAST WEEK: beat TATES CREEK (1-5), 37-0. The Raiders have two shutouts in a season for the first time since 2019. NEXT UP: 10/10 – at Campbell County (2-3).

12. Covington Catholic (4-2) – LAST WEEK: won at Central (2-4), 35-6. Seniors Dylan Gaiser (29) and Cash Harney (27) have combined to score 56 touchdowns since the beginning of last season (20 games). NEXT UP: 10/3 – at #5 Highlands (5-1, 1-0).

13. Lakota West (3-3, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: beat then #14 MIDDLETOWN (5-0, 4-0), 27-13.The Firebirds have gained just 101 yards on 82 carries (0.8 yards per carry) over the last three games. NEXT UP: 10/3 – at Colerain (1-5, 1-4).

14. Lakota East (4-2, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: won at then #16 FAIRFIELD (3-3, 3-2), 34-7. Only four Thunderhawks have scored offensive touchdowns on the season. NEXT UP: 10/3 – at #16 Middletown (5-1, 4-1).

15. Badin (6-0, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Chaminade Julienne (0-6, 0-1), 45-14. The Rams are averaging 43.5 points per contest. NEXT UP: 10/3 – FENWICK (3-3, 0-1).

16. Middletown (5-1, 4-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at then #17 Lakota West (3-3, 3-2), 27-13. Despite giving up a season high 27 points to Lakota West the Middies are still only allowing 9.8 points per game. NEXT UP: 10/3 – #14 LAKOTA EAST (4-2, 3-2). 

17. Mason (3-3, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #5 PRINCETON (5-1, 5-0), 35-21. The Comets  have given up 35 points three times in the last five weeks. NEXT UP: 10/3 – at #18 Fairfield (3-3, 2-3).

18. Fairfield (3-3, 2-3) – LAST WEEK: lost at #18 Lakota East (4-2, 3-2), 34-7. Freshman Corrious Booker has a team high 452 yards rushing. NEXT UP: 10/3 – #17 MASON (3-3, 3-2).

19. East Central (5-1, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat SOUTH DEARBORN (4-2), 66-6. The Trojans have outscored their last two opponents, 111-6. Both victims have winning records on the year. NEXT UP: 10/3 – CONNERSVILLE (3-3).

20. Cooper (3-3, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat CONNER (1-5, 0-1), 49-14. Senior Keagan Maher has 59 career touchdowns (50 rush, nine rec). NEXT UP: 10/3 – at Dixie Heights (2-4, 1-0).

21. Lebanon (4-2, 3-2) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #8 KINGS (5-1, 4-1), 38-20. The Warriors have given up 32 points or more in each of their last three contests. NEXT UP: 10/3 – at Milford (1-5, 1-4).

22. Withrow (4-2, 0-1) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #10 TAFT (6-0,  1-0), 39-0. The Tigers were shutout in a regular season game for the first time since 2020. NEXT UP: 10-4 – WOODWARD (0-6, 0-1).

23. Beechwood (4-1, 1-0) – LAST WEEK: beat OWEN COUNTY (2-3), 68-6. The Tigers have scored 45 points or more four times in five games. NEXT UP: 10/3 – at Walton-Verona (1-4, 0-1). 

24. Indian Hill (5-0, 2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Taylor (2-3, 1-2), 52-0. The Braves have posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2016. They are allowing just 5.8 points per game. NEXT UP: 10/3 – FINNEYTOWN (1-5, 0-2). 

25. CHCA (5-1) – LAST WEEK: beat then #23 HARRISON (4-2), 31-29. Despite allowing a season high 29 points to Harrison, the Eagles defense is only allowing 12.6 points per game and has forced 18 turnovers. NEXT UP: 10/3 – MEADOWDALE (2-4).
