Scott tops NCC on fumble return
- Updated: August 21, 2015
Scott junior lineman Gage Tucker ran in a fumble recovery midway through the fourth quarter as Scott nipped Newport Central Catholic, 8-7 on Friday.
Tucker stripped the ball as play was winding down and ran down the sideline for the decisive score.
Senior quarterback Danny Fitzgerald ran in the ensuing two-point conversion.
“The thing I do like is that we stayed in it and found a way to win,” Eagles coach Dan Woolley said.
The Thoroughbreds fumbled on their next possession, and they got the ball back with over a minute left and no time outs, but Scott senior safety Deondre Pleasant picked off a pass to seal it.
The game was scoreless until the closing seconds of the third quarter.
