Indiana Offensive POY: Luke Patton
- Updated: February 11, 2016
A storied career added another chapter for East Central quarterback Luke Patton who was named the TriStateFootball.com Indiana Offensive Player of the Year for a second straight season as TSF paid tribute to finest from Northern Kentucky, Dayton, Cincinnati and Southeast Indiana area’s high school gridiron at the Year in Review Show on Wednesday night at the Holy Grail-Banks in downtown Cincinnati.
The Trojans went 12-3 including five straight playoff victories which put them in the Class 4A state title game behind the arm and legs of their senior signal-caller. It was the third state final appearance for the program and first since 1994. East Central’s run would end at Lucas Oil Stadium as they feel to Bishop Dwenger but by then everyone in the Hoosier state knew who Luke Patton was.
Patton finished 2015 with 1,454 yards passing, 1,755 more on the ground while accounting for 42 touchdowns (33 rushing, nine passing). It was the second consecutive 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards passing for Patton the only player in school history to do so.
Patton was also named EIAC Division 4A Offensive MVP for a second straight year and garnered Class 4A IFCA First Team All-Indiana and Class 4A AP First Team All-Indiana acclaim. He finishes his career having amassed 5,172 yards of total offense (3,064 rushing, 23 passing) and accounting for 85 touchdowns (62 rushing, 23 passing).
