Porter, FGs lift La Salle over Elder
- Updated: October 27, 2017
Cameron Porter scored the go-ahead touchdown with four seconds left in the second quarter as La Salle edged Elder, 13-7 in the teams’ GCL and regular season finale on Friday.
A pair of Jake Seibert field goals accounted for the Lancers’ other six points.
Seibert converted a 33-yard kick just over three minutes into the game to give La Salle the early lead.
Forty seconds into the second quarter, the Panthers went ahead for the only time in the game when Jack Mazza punched in a two-yard touchdown.
Porter’s decisive score in the closing seconds of the half make it 10-7 Lancers. Seibert capped the scoring with a field goal from 36 yards out late in the third quarter.

Neither team reached 250 yards of offense. Porter rushed for 84 of La Salle’s 204 yards, and QB Griffin Merritt was 8 of 16 for 80 yards.
Elder finished with 242 yards, and Mazza accounted for 102 of them on the ground. Michael Bittner was 11-for-19 for 124 yards.
The Lancers intercepted three passes to squelch Panthers drives. Luke Thiemann, Hinton Daniel and Shane McNally all recorded picks for La Salle.
La Salle clinched the No. 1 seed in Division II, and Elder’s postseason status is unclear following its loss.
The Lancers finished second in the GCL South while the Panthers took third.
