Colerain blanks Sycamore, wins big 45-0

CINCINNATI, OHIO – Quarterback Deante Smith-Moore led the way for the Colerain Cardinals tonight, again, as they defeated fellow GMC member Sycamore 45-0 .

Smith-Moore, the 5’7″ senior, came into the game having already thrown for 6 touchdowns on the year, while also running for the same amount on the ground.

The game started off quiet, as neither team could find the end zone within the first 10 minutes of the game. By the end of the first quarter though, the Cardinals were rolling.

Smith-Moore stayed hot and kicked off the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run with 1:25 left in the first quarter, and after an interception by Luke Bolden on the Aviators’ following drive, the Cardinals had their offense back on the field just seconds later in Sycamore territory.

Smith-Moore seized the opportunity by throwing a 12-yard touchdown strike to JJ Davis. Davis reeled in another touchdown reception from his quarterback with 10:08 left in the second quarter, this time going for 23 yards.

Senior Ivan Pace Jr. scored on a 44-yard run shortly after, his 5th touchdown on the year. Pace has now scored a rushing touchdown in each game Colerain has played this year. He finished with 126 yards on only nine carries.

It was 35-0 in favor of Colerain at halftime, and they showed no signs of slowing down. Their defense suffocated Sycamore in this game. They finished with two interceptions, a sack, and only allowed 76 total yards, 59 of which came through the air.

The longest play they gave up on the night was a 31-yard pass from Aves’ sophomore quarterback Andrew Fehr to junior running back Jordan McConnel.

Fehr ended with 59 yards by going 8/17. McConnel led all skill positions with 42 yards on four receptions.

Smith-Moore finished the night by going 7/9 for 176 yards and 3 touchdowns, while running for 48 yards on 8 carries with 2 touchdowns.

After his performance tonight, Smith-Moore now has nine passing touchdowns and eight rushing touchdowns to go with over 500 passing and rushing yards through five games.

The win also gives the Cardinals 71 straight GMC wins over Sycamore, and keeps them in first place in the conference.
