East Central Batters Batesville
- Updated: September 15, 2018
ST. LEON, Indiana – Since losing to Oak Hills four weeks ago the East Central offense has been unstoppable. Friday night was no different. The Trojans racked up 586 yards of total offense, 464 of those rushing as they plowed through rival Batesville. East Central has put up 49, 58 and 55 points during its current three game winning streak.
Three Trojans picked up more than 130 yards on the ground – Alex Maxwell (148), Jake Fike (136), Eric Rosemeyer (132). East Central averaged 13.2 yards per carry as a team. They were just too much for the Bulldogs defense too handle.
Maxwell found the end zone three times, giving him 52 career touchdowns rushing. He also threw for 122 yards and a scoring strike to Trevor Becker.
A gutty performance saw Batesville quarterback Trey Heidlage amass 337 yards of total offense (257 pass, 80 rush) with a rushing touchdown. He also had an interception on defense. Bulldogs receiver Austin Siefert caught 10 of Heidlage’s passes for 133 yards.
The East Central victory sets up an EIAC 4A showdown. The Trojans with the league’s top offense will square off against the conference’s best defense, South Dearborn. The Knights have given up just 21 points on the year.
