Winton Woods Stays Hot Friday Night

Entering the playoffs Winton Woods is one of the hottest teams in the Cincinnati area and that continued Friday night against Moeller. The Warriors won their ninth straight game Friday night, defeating Moeller 21-17.
Winton Woods survived when special teams scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to take the lead and eventual winning score. With just under nine minutes left in the game, Moeller had a snap that went over the punters head that was recovered by Deme Blankumsee in the endzone for the team’s third touchdown on the night.
Moeller became the second GCL-South to lose to Winton Woods in the last three weeks after the Warriors defeated Elder in Week 7.
Winton Woods took an early lead in the first quarter when Miyan Williams scored on a 35-yard run.
Moeller was able to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Winton Woods botched a snap on their own 9-yard line that led to quarterback Michale Wingfield being sacked in the endzone by Joe Toepfer.
After stopping Moeller, Winton Woods answered when Williams broke tackles for his second touchdown on the night to take a 14-2 lead.
Moeller cut the lead heading into halftime when Moeller drove down the field and Chrystopher Watkins scored on a 2-yard run.
The Crusaders defense shut down Winton Woods offense in the second half. Williams rushed for 193 yards, but the majority of that came in the first half. They held one of the leafing offenses to only 267 yards.
Winton Woods will enter the playoffs as the top seed in Division II, Region 11. Moeller is expected to make the playoffs as they entered as the fifth seed in Division I, Region 4.
