Beechwood on to fourth straight final
- Updated: November 24, 2018
FORT MITCHELL, Kentucky – Logan Castleman ran for five touchdowns in his final home game at Edgar McNabb Field as Beechwood took out Campbellsville. The victory moves the Tigers to the state championship game for a fourth consecutive season, They now look to capture their third straight title and 14th in program history.
Castleman, a four-year starter and Wright State University commit for baseball finished the game with 264 yards rushing on 32 carries. He raised his season totals to 1,608 yards on the ground and 33 touchdowns (28 rushing). The senior and his classmates become just the second group of Tigers to make it to the finals four straight years. The Class of 1995 achieved the feat in the ’91-’94 seasons (they won all four crowns).
Beechwood struggled in the first half with three turnovers. Castleman had a fumble and quarterback Cameron Hergott threw two interceptions, both to Eagles defensive back, Blasé Wheatley. Hergott would redeem himself with two second quarter scores on the ground including a spectacular 18-yard run to close out the half. The sophomore ended his night with 90 yards on nine carries while letting Castleman take over the heavy lifting after intermission.
The Tigers have won four titles under head coach Noel Rash. Beechwood is 145-37 under Rash, who is in his 13th season at the school. All 13 of the programs have come since 1984. Only Trinity (25) and Highlands (23) have won more Kentucky state championships than Beechwood.
