Elder Shut Outs Moeller in First Round

Matthew Luebbe and Elder cruise to a 35-0 win over Moeller in the first round of the state playoffs Friday night at home.

Luebbe scored two touchdowns and finished with 86 rushing yards.

The Panthers were able to get revenge after losing to Moeller, 24-21, in Week 7. In the first matchup, Elder held Moeller to only 227 yards and they did the same in this rivalry game. They held Moeller to only 158 yards and only seven first downs.

Elder compiled 367 yards behind senior quarterback Michael Bittner. The majority of Bittner’s yards came on the ground as oppose to through the air. He rushed for 134 yards and only threw the football for 96 yards. Elder found success in the running game as they combined 271 yards.

Elder took a 14-0 lead in halftime and took advantage of a Moeller fumble and an interception.

Moeller went undefeated in the GCL South but fell to 6-5 on the season. They finished the season with four straight losses with their last win coming against Elder.

The three-seed Elder will play seven-seed Lakota East in the Region 4 semifinals after the Thunderhawks upset two-seed Mason, 20-17. Elder will be rising a three-game win streak and has outscored opponents 97-17. They have turned around a season that started slow and looked like they would miss the playoffs until winning the last three games. This will be the first time since 2015 Elder made the regional semifinals.
