Springfield handles Wayne for GWOC American title

HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio – Springfield cruises to its seventh straight win and clinched the GWOC American division title with 38-13 victory over Wayne. Wildcats senior Jeff Tolliver led the team in rushing with 176 yards on only nine carries, including three touchdowns for the victors. He had an 80-yard, 11-yard and 59-yard touchdowns runs. Tolliver has scored three touchdowns in three of his last four games.

Tavion and Te’Sean Smoot were responsible for the other three Springfield touchdowns on short runs. The Wildcats finished the contest 217 yards on the ground.

Springfield jumped out a 19-0 lead in the third quarter before Wayne got on the scoreboard with three minutes left on a two-yard run by Devin Nelson in the third quarter. The Warriors controlled the ball for 29 minutes in this affair but turned the ball over twice. Wayne amassed 387 yards of total offense, including Cam Fancher’s 207 passing yards.

Having already clinched a Division I, Region 2 playoff berth Springfield looks to improve their seeding next week against Trotwood-Madison. Wayne drops to 3-6 and will finish the season with a losing record for the first time in over 10 years.
