Loaded Division IV Tabs Prater, Kiner, O’Gara and Blaut as Tops
- Updated: November 21, 2019
What a year it has been for Division IV football in Southwest Ohio. A deep and talented group of players gave fans plenty to enjoy in 2019. Wyoming quarterback and Roger Bacon running back Corey Kiner were named Southwest District Co-Offensive Players of the Year. Prater’s teammate Camden O’Gara earned Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Kiner’s coach, Mike Blaut was touted as the Coach Year.
Prater, the reigning OPSWA Ohio Division IV OPOY earns his second Southwest District OPOY honors. The University of Cincinnati commit is 39-1 as Wyoming’s starting quarterback. The unbeaten Cowboys are in the regional title game and 12-0 for a fourth straight year. They are on their quest to win back-to-back state titles. Prater has amassed 2,934 yards of total offense (1,626 pass, 1,308 rush) and accounted for 43 touchdowns (21 pass, 22 rush) in his senior season. He currently has 5,509 yards passing, 3,923 yards rushing, 72 passing touchdowns and 68 rushing scores in his career.
Prater’s classmate and DPOY, Cam O’Gara is the heart-and-soul of a Wyoming defense that is allowing just 6.1 points per game, has yet to give up more than 18 points in a contest and has five shutouts. O’Gara has recorded 114 total tackles (78 solo), two sacks and two interceptions including a pick six in 2019. The four-year starter is Wyoming’s all-time leading tackler with 425 (314 solo) and counting. O’Gara also has six sacks and six interceptions in a Wyoming uniform.
Roger Bacon running back Corey Kiner tore it up for the Spartans. The junior crushed the school record books with 2,298 yards rushing, a 12.1 yards per carry average, 40 rushing touchdowns, 44 total touchdowns, 278 points scored (14th best in a season in Ohio history) and 2,943 all-purpose yards. He ran for 200 yards or more seven times in his last eight games including more than 300 against playoff teams CHCA (8-3) and Summit Country Day (8-2). Kiner’s offers include Ohio State, Michigan, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Tennessee, Kentucky, Purdue, Louisville and Indiana. He heads into his senior year with 5,264 yards rushing, 81 rushing touchdowns (tied for 20th all-time in Ohio), 88 total touchdowns (25th all-time in Ohio), 6,804 all-purpose yards and 548 points scored – all Roger Bacon records.
Roger Bacon head coach Mike Blaut guided the Spartans to a 10-2 record including the school’s first playoff appearance since 2010 and first postseason win since 2001. That effort by his team helped Blaut earn Coach of the year acclaim. Blaut raised his record to 24-28 in five years at Roger Bacon.
