Cincy 2020 Breakout Performers
- Updated: August 17, 2020
As we move into this abbreviated 2020 season, TriState Football takes a look at some of the players in the Queen City that are ready to make a big splash. Here are some of those rising stars, high on the TSF watch list that are poised to bust out this coming year.
Mitch Bolden (Lakota West), So, QB – Started the last seven games of his freshman year (including one in the playoffs versus Elder) and fared quite well. Bolden threw for 679 yards, ran for 213 yards and had eight touchdown tosses. Expect him to make one of the biggest leaps forward amongst all the quarterbacks in the Queen City.
Isaiah Daniels (Mount Healthy), Jr, RB – A punishing runner who will inflict plenty of damage over the next two seasons. Daniels racked up 278 of his 393 yards (including two contests of 110-plus yards) and three of his four touchdowns rushing in the Owls first four games of 2019.
MJ Flowers (Colerain), Jr, RB – Showed signs of being special the first two-thirds of the 2019 season. Flowers gained all 475 yards (including two 100-plus yard contests rushing) and had all five of his touchdowns in the Cardinals first seven games. He gained those tough yards against an opposition that included of St. Xavier, Wayne, Sycamore and Princeton.
William Ingle (Sycamore), Jr, RB – In a great place to succeed as Sycamore is at its best when it runs the football. Ingle averaged 6.8 per carry and gained 293 yards with five touchdowns (one every seven carries). He also showed his versatility with eight receptions for 71 yards as a sophomore. The Aviators will get Ingle the ball as much as possible (including kick returns) to showcase his skills in open space.
Cooper Johnson (Elder), Sr, RB – It’s hard to say a guy that ran for 10 touchdowns as a junior is considered a breakout performer but Johnson is just that. The Elder captain, a team and crowd favorite gets his shot at being a workhorse out of the Panthers backfield after gaining 353 yards a year ago.
Josh Kattus (Moeller), Jr, TE – With just one catch in his career, Kattus will see his number called more often with Moeller having stability at quarterback this fall. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end is a top prospect in the Class of 2022. Kattus has offers from his dad’s (Eric) alma mater, Michigan, as well as Pitt, Akron and Toledo.
Jerick McClanahan (Anderson), Sr, WR – The Redskins top returning threat at receiver. In a wide open, spread the wealth Anderson offense, McClanahan should thrive. He hauled in 24 balls (15 of those in the last three weeks of the season) for 408 yards and four touchdowns as a junior.
Jaylen Norwood (La Salle), Sr, WR/DB – An unsung commodity in a crowded group of talented Lancers skills players. Norwood will find a way to make his presence felt as one of La Salle’s top targets in the passing game in 2020. He had 20 receptions for 323 yards and four touchdowns as a junior.
Ty Thornton (Indian Hill), Jr, QB – Back on the field after a year hiatus to concentrate on basketball. Thornton, a dual threat, has the tools to be a candidate for the CHL Offensive Player of the Year in each of the next two seasons.
Luke Vransky (St. Xavier), Jr, RB – A grinder with a blue-collar work ethic that any coach would love. A healthy Vransky could emerge as the Bombers featured back. He is an asset as a return man as well. Vransky finished his sophomore campaign with 350 all-purpose yards (152 rush, 190 ret) and two rushing touchdowns.
