St. Xavier wins at La Salle

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The “King of the Road” trophy is heading back to St. Xavier after the Bombers pulled off a convincing 24-10 win on the road versus La Salle.

The Lancers, who scored 53 points a week ago against Elder, found the end zone just one time on this Friday against a stingy St. Xavier defense.

Junior quarterback Brogan McCaughey shined for the Bombers, completing 21-of-32 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Charles Kellom added 112 yards on the ground in the victory.

One of the biggest surprises on the night came as St. Xavier held Gi’Bran Payne to just eight yards on the ground. Payne was on the receiving end of a Zach Branam 32-yard TD pass for the Lancers only score in the contest.

The key play of the game could have been made by Alex Kemper. The junior defensive back picked off a Branam pass in the end zone that would have tied the game at the end of the third quarter.
