St. Xavier wins at The Pit
- Updated: September 11, 2020
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The St. Xavier Bombers, the top-ranked team in the Blitz 5 Top 25, continued their march through the GCL South with a big 38-24 win versus the Elder Panthers on Friday night at The Pit.
Elder jumped out to a 10-0 first quarter lead but the Bombers bounced back before the half and pulled away late with three unanswered scores in the final frame, capitalizing on a myriad of Panthers’ miscues.
Junior quarterback Brogan McCaughey completed 17-of-26 passes and two touchdowns and Luke Vransky led all rushers with 15 carries for 64 yards and a pair of scores, including a 36-yard run scamper in the game’s waning minutes that proved to be the icing on the cake.
The Bombers won the battle on the ground and that proved to be a big difference in this contest. St. Xavier outrushed Elder by 158-21 margin.
With the win St. X now sits at 2-0 inside the GCL South after picking up road wins at La Salle and Elder over the past two weeks.
