TSF 2020 Indiana DPOY: Kole Viel
- Updated: March 11, 2021
As is the case in most years, the East Central (8-3) defense plays a large role in its annual prosperity. Last fall was no different. The Trojans allowed just 11.1 points per game, held nine of their 11 foes to 12 points or less and recorded two shutouts. East Central’s three losses were to Indiana Class 3A state champions Bishop Chatard, Class 4A state champions Roncalli and Class 4A state semifinalist Mooresville.
A large reason for East Central’s success was the play of linebacker, Kole Viel who was named our 2020 TriState Football Indiana Defensive Player of the Year for his performance on the field.
Viel, who has committed to University of Indianapolis recorded 59 total tackles, had 12 tackles for losses, three sacks, two forced fumbles and returned his only interception for touchdown as a senior. That effort also garnered Viel EIAC 4A DPOY accolades. The three-year starter finished his career as a Trojan with 211 total tackles, 24 tackles for losses, eight sacks, three forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three interceptions.
