TSF 2021 Cincinnati DPOY: Jyaire Brown
- Updated: February 22, 2022
A lock down cornerback, Jyaire Brown was an integral part of a Lakota West team that made the school’s first ever appearance in the regional finals. Brown was named the TriState Football Cincinnati Defensive Player of the Year, as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati.
Despite teams trying to throw away from the senior, Brown still managed to come up with five interceptions and two fumble recoveries for a Firebirds defense that allowed just 82.3 yards per game passing with only five touchdown passes against them and had 18 picks. He also had four receiving and two punt return touchdowns.
His work also garnered him OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio for a second straight season as well as being named Southwest District DPOY and GMC DPOY. Brown has signed with Ohio State.
The other 2021 TSF Cincinnati Defensive Player of the Year finalists were all seniors – Alex Afari (Lakota West), Brody Foley (Anderson), Jay’ron Gibson (Winton Woods), Norey Johnson (Deer Park), Grant Lyons (St. Xavier), Kylyn Macklin (Purcell Marian) and Radical Rothermel (Edgewood).
TriStateFootball.com was founded in 2005 and started its postseason awards in 2007. Brown is the first Lakota West player and fourth defensive back – Chris Williams (Winton Woods) in 2008, Sam Hubbard (Moeller) in 2013 and Deshawn Pace (Colerain) in 2019 to be named TSF Cincinnati Defensive Player of the Year.
