The catalyst for the Division I state runner-up Springfield Wildcats, Te’Sean Smoot was named the TriState Football Dayton Offensive Player of the Year, as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati.

Smoot threw for 3,006 yards, ran for 973 yards and accounted 44 touchdowns (21 pass, 23 rush) helping Springfield to its third consecutive regional championship and first ever appearance in the finals. The senior’s effort also garnered him a Ohio Mr. Football Finalist nomination, as well as OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio, OPSWA Southwest District OPOY and GWOC OPOY (for a second straight year) accolades.

Over the past three seasons, Springfield finished 11-3 in the playoffs with Smoot as its starting quarterback. He finished his career with 7,835 yards passing, 67 touchdown tosses, 1,789 yards rushing and 38 scores on the ground. He has signed with Jacksonville State.

Other finalists included seniors Seth Borondy (Bellbrook), Chase Harrison (Centerville), Josh Martin (Eaton), Jasiah Medley (Piqua), Carson Vanhoose (Clinton-Massie), Jack Walsh (Badin) and junior Elijah Jackson (Monroe).

TriStateFootball.com was founded in 2005 and started its Dayton postseason awards in 2009. In the 13-year history of this award, Smoot becomes just the fifth quarterback to be nominated twice as a TSF Dayton Offensive Player of the Year finalist – Jacob Harrison (Centerville/Chaminade Julienne), three times in 2013-’14-’13; Braxton Miller (Wayne) in 09’-’10; Malik Zaire (Alter) in ’11-’12 and D’Mitrik Trice (Wayne) in ’13-’14. He is the second Springfield player to be named the TSF Dayton Offensive Player of the Year.
