2022 Snapshot: Lloyd Memorial
- Updated: March 21, 2022
A season ago Lloyd had to suffer through the growing pains that youth presents itself with. Now, a year wiser and more mature this Juggernauts squad looks to be a real thorn in the side of their opponents.
“Being a young team last year means that our guys got a lot of experience. This could be looked at as a weakness, but they are a year more mature and have game experience,” head coach Kyle Niederman states. “We are young at a lot of the skill positions on both offense and defense. Along with that we get younger the deeper we go in our roster.”
Expectations are high are high for Lloyd. The schedule is challenging and mistakes are not going to be tolerated like they were in 2021. “Our leadership is strong and again. We will rely on the guy’s up front to carry our team,” Niederman says. The Juggernauts are going to be expected to play like veterans and bring home more wins than losses
Class 2A, District 5
2021 RECORD: 3-7, 1-2 Class 2A, District 6
COACH: Kyle Niederman (13-15 at Lloyd Memorial, three years; 13-15 overall)
TOP RETURNEES
Kaiden Zulager, Sr, RB – One of the most unheralded players in Northern Kentucky. Zulager ran for 1,012 and 11 touchdowns as a junior. His leadership is going to be leaned on this season. Look for Zulager to be a factor on defense as well.
Amari Riley, Sr, LB/RB – A major cog in the Lloyd defense. Riley is a leader on both sides of the ball. He has 86 total tackles, a sack, an interception, 434 yards rushing and nine touchdowns (eight rush, one rec) in his career.
Thomas Plymesser, Jr, OL/DL – The anchor in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Plymesser is a no non-sense kind of player that puts a lot of pressure on offenses and makes it hard for defenses to penetrate through the line. He had 26 total tackles and a sack last fall.
Elijah Westwood, Jr, DB/K – Has become a player that the Juggernauts like to rely on. Westwood has a great eye for the ball, which makes it difficult for opposing offenses. He tallied 26 total tackles as a sophomore and has 26 career points as a kicker (two FGs).
Avander Abrams, Jr, RB/DL – The type of player that loves to hit and when he hits you, you will remember it. Abrams recorded 50 total tackles and three sacks as a sophomore.
Amari Griffin, Jr, WR/DB – A ball hawk who is quick to shut down receivers. Griffin had 19 total tackles as a sophomore. Look for him to play a larger role on offense this season.
John Crim, Jr, WR/DB – Lloyd will utilize Crim in all three phases of the game. He is the kind of player that can opposing offenses trouble.
NEWCOMERS
Lloyd is looking for a trio of sophomores, RB Yurii Collins, DB Tyler Copeland and WR/DB Isaiah Sebastian to step in and make even bigger impacts than they did as freshmen. Copeland had 40 total tackles and Sebastian had 32 total tackles and forced two fumbles a year ago.
