TSF 2022 Cincinnati OPOY Finalists

There are nine finalists for the 2022 TriState Football Cincinnati Offensive Player of the Year. Seven nominees and two are juniors. Five nominees are quarterbacks, three are running backs and one is a receiver. This is the third nomination for CJ Hester, the second for Drew Novak (the 2021 TSF Cincinnati Offensive Player of the Year), Jordan Marshall and Will Kocher.
This is the 16th year of the award and Hester becomes just the third player to be named a Cincinnati OPOY finalists three times. He joins Miyan Williams (Winton Woods/Ohio State) and Corey Kiner (Roger Bacon/LSU/ Cincinnati) with that honor.
The members of the All-TSF Teams, the TSF Teams of the Year, Players of the Year and finalists from Indiana, Dayton, Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati as well as the Mella Windows Players of the Week will be recognized at the TriState Football Year In Review Awards Show on Monday, February 20th, 2023 at the Holy Grail-Banks – RSVP 2022 TSF Year In Review Show
Here is a look at our finalists:
Mitch Bolden, Lakota West, Sr, QB – OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio, GMC OPOY and Honorable Mention All-TSF (second straight season). Guided Lakota West (13-1) to its first-ever 10-0 undefeated regular season throwing for a GMC best 2,741 yards, running for 775 yards and accounting for 44 touchdowns (30 pass, 14 rush). The Firebirds did not lose a game versus GMC foes in his final three years as a starter (24-0). His only for losses in that span were to GCL South schools (St. Xavier – twice, Moeller – twice). Bolden finished his career with 6,126 yards passing, 2,147 yards rushing with 100 touchdowns accounted for (71 pass, 19 rush). He has committed to Army.
Trey Cornist, Winton Woods, Sr, RB – OPSWA Ohio Division II First Team All-Ohio OPSWA Southwest District OPOY and First Team All-TSF. Cornist ran for 1,629 yards, averaged 9.0 yards per carry with 26 rushing touchdowns and one receiving score helping Winton Woods (12-1) to an undefeated regular season and regional semifinals appearance. He had six games with at least 130 yards rushing during a seven-week period of the ECC season. Cornist has signed with Tulane.
CJ Hester, Wyoming, Sr, RB – Ohio Mr. Football Finalist, OPSWA Ohio Division IV OPOY (second straight season), First Team All-Ohio (third straight season), OPSWA Southwest District OPOY (third straight season), CHL OPOY (second straight season) and First Team All-TSF (second straight season). Hester ran for 3,178 yards (10th most in a single season total in Ohio history) and 49 touchdowns (tied for 3rd most in a season in Ohio history) helping the Cowboys to a 15-1 record and state runner-up finish. He also had a reception and an interception return for scores giving him 51 total touchdowns (tied for 3rd most in a season in Ohio history) while tallying 306 points scored (tied for 11th most in a season in Ohio history). In his four years as a starter the Cowboys went a combined 50-4 with no regular season losses and a 14-4 playoff record. Hester finished his illustrious career with 722 points scored (8th most in Ohio history), 113 total touchdowns (9th most in Ohio history), 103 rushing touchdowns (11th most in Ohio history), and 7,177 yards rushing (13th most in Ohio history). He has signed Western Michigan.
Talon Fisher, Fairfield, Jr, QB – OPSWA Division I Second Team All-Ohio and Third Team All-TSF. Fisher led the GMC in rushing and amassed 2,952 yards of total offense (1,566 rush, 1,386 pass) and accounted for 27 touchdowns (18 rush, nine pass) for Fairfield (7-4). He ran for 150-plus yards six times and had eight games with at least 100 yards rushing. Fisher heads into his senior with more than 3,000 yards rushing and passing (3,031 rush, 3,168 pass) and 55 touchdowns accounted for (39 rush, 16 pass). He has offers from Miami (OH), UMass and Buffalo.
Will Kocher, Kings, Sr, QB – OPSWA Division II First Team All-Ohio, ECC OPOY (for a second straight year) and Second Team All-TSF. Kocher helped guide Kings (13-2) to its first regional title throwing for 4,741 yards (9th most in a single season total in Ohio history), with 50 touchdown passes (19th highest single season total in Ohio history), 15 rushing scores and 750 yards on the ground. He threw for three touchdowns 11 times and had seven games of 300 yards-plus through the air. Kocher threw for 8,159 yards (38th most in Ohio history), ran for 1,759 yards, with 81 passing touchdowns (tied for 32nd most in Ohio history) and 35 rushing touchdowns in a Knights uniform. He has PWO offers from Cincinnati and Toledo.
Jordan Marshall, Moeller, Jr, RB – OPSWA Division I OPOY, First Team All-Ohio, OPSWA Southwest District OPOY, GCL South AOY and First Team All-TSF. Marshall ran for 1,951 yards, averaged 8.0 yards per carry, caught 19 passes for 364 yards and found the end zone 34 times (30 rush, four rec) in 14 games for Moeller (13-2). He ran for at least two touchdowns 10 times and topped the 100-yard mark rushing on 12 occasions against one of the toughest schedules in the country. The Crusaders only losses were to Division I state champion, St. Edward by six points and to Division I state runner-up Springfield by four points. He heads into his senior campaign with 3,237 rushing yards, 43 receptions for 825 receiving yards, 4,182 all-purpose yards and 59 touchdowns scored (48 rush, 11 pass). Marshall, one of the nation’s top prospects in the Class of 24 has narrowed his college choices down to offers down to Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Tennessee.
Michael Mussari, Kings, Sr, WR – OPSWA Division II First Team All-Ohio and First Team All-TSF. Mussari turned in one of the greatest seasons by a receiver that the Buckeye state has ever seen with 1,750 yards receiving (tied for 13th most yards in a season in Ohio history) on 84 receptions, of which 29 went for touchdowns (2nd most in a season in in Ohio history). He had eight games with at least three touchdown catches, seven games of seven or more receptions and four games with at least 200 yards or more receiving while helping King to its first regional title. Mussari finished his career with 130 receptions for 2,581 yards and 41 touchdown catches (tied for 14th most in Ohio history). He has a PWO offer from Cincinnati.
Drew Novak, Western Brown, Sr, QB –OPSWA Division III OPOY (for a second straight season), OPSWA Division III First Team All-Ohio (for a second straight season), OPSWA Division III Southwest District OPOY (for a second straight season), SBAAC American OPOY (for a second straight season) and First Team All-TSF. Novak followed up his sensational 2021 campaign, in which he was an Ohio Mr. Football Finalist and TSF Cincinnati OPOY, by throwing for 4,203 yards (25th highest single season total in Ohio history), running for 1,238 yards and accounting for 55 touchdowns (35 pass, 20 rush) for Western Brown (11-2). He had five games with at least 300 yards passing, eight contests with 100 yards or more on the ground, nine games with at least three touchdown tosses and five contests of with at least three rushing scores. Novak finished his historic career with 14,127 yards passing (3rd most in Ohio history), 131 touchdown tosses (tied for 6th most in Ohio history) with another 2,830 yards and 46 touchdowns rushing. He has signed with Ashland.
Griffin Scalf, Anderson, Sr, QB – OPSWA Division II First Team All-Ohio (for a second straight year) and Honorable Mention All-TSF (for a second straight year). Scalf threw for 4,637 yards (11th highest single season total in Ohio history), ran for 566 yards, with 36 passing touchdowns and 10 more scores rushing leading Anderson (8-6) to the regional finals. Ten times he threw for at least 300 yards and had five games with at least four touchdown passes. Scalf threw for 8,714 yards (23rd most in Ohio history), ran for 1,086 yards, with 76 passing touchdowns (tied for 32nd most in Ohio history) and 15 rushing touchdowns in his career. He has signed with Thomas More.
