TSF 2022 Dayton OPOY Finalists

It’s a senior-laden group, as all nine finalists for the 2022 TriState Football Dayton Offensive Player of the Year are in the Class of 2023. This the first finalist nomination for each of them.

The members of the All-TSF Teams, the TSF Teams of the Year, Players of the Year and finalists from Indiana, Dayton, Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati as well as the Mella Windows Players of the Week will be recognized at the TriState Football Year In Review Awards Show on Monday, February 20th, 2023 at the Holy Grail-Banks – RSVP 2022 TSF Year In Review Show

Here is a look at our finalists.

Anthony Brown
, Springfield, Sr, WR – OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio and First Team All-TSF. An electrifying talent and one of the state’s top talents. Brown averaged 19.6 yards on 83 receptions for 1,626 yards with 20 touchdown catches (tied for 24th most all-time in a season in Ohio history) and 2,189 all-purpose yards as Springfield (13-2) won its fourth straight regional title and finished state runner-up for a second consecutive campaign. He ended his career in a Wildcat uniform having caught at least one reception in 34 consecutive games (tied for 11th most in Ohio history; 33 of those games with at least two receptions, 23 games with five or more catches), 166 receptions, 3,319 receiving yards (17th most in Ohio history), 36 touchdown receptions (tied for 11th most in Ohio history), 13 games with at least 100 yards receiving, 41 total touchdowns and 4,245 all-purpose yards. Brown has signed with Kentucky.

Nic Bruder, Centerville, Sr, WR/RB – OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio (WR) and Honorable Mention All-TSF. Performed at a very high level in all phases of the game for the Elks. Bruder amassed 1,371 all-purpose yards, had 37 receptions for 623 receiving yards, eight touchdown catches, a touchdown pass, a rushing touchdown, a punt return for a score. a pick six, 58 total tackles and three interceptions as Centerville (10-3) had its first 10-win season since 2017. In his career, Bruder caught 74 balls for 1,082 yards, with 15 touchdown catches, 1,980 all-purpose yards, 102 total tackles, one fumble recovery, seven interceptions and three interception returns for touchdowns. He is committed to Adrian College for baseball.

Jacob Clark, Valley View, Sr, RB – OPSWA Division V First Team All-Ohio, SWBL West OPOY and Honorable Mention All-TSF. An unstoppable force in all three phases of the game for a Valley View (13-2) squad that won its eighth regional title and first since 2002. Clark ran for 1,506 yards, amassed 2,231 all-purpose yards, had 15 receptions for 205 yards, found the end zone 22 times (17 rush, three PRs, one rec, one KR). On defense, Clark had 11 tackles, had three sacks and five tackles for losses. The four-year starter ended his Spartans career with 3,313 yards rushing, 6,501 all-purpose yards, 73 receptions for 881 receiving yards, 1,327 return yards and 66 touchdowns (51 rush, seven, rec, three PRs, one KR).

RJ Mukes III, Wayne, Sr, WR – OPSWA Division I Second Team All-Ohio and Second Team All-TSF. Had a breakout senior campaign with 79 receptions for 1,101 yards receiving, 1,757 all-purpose yards with seven touchdown catches and two kickoff returns for scores as Wayne (6-5) made the playoffs for third straight season and its 24th postseason appearance in school history. Mukes finished his Warriors career with 144 receptions, 1,651 receiving yards, 2,769 all-purpose yards and 15 touchdowns (12 rec, two KRs, one PR). He has signed with Ball State.

Liam Poronsky, Tippecanoe, Sr, RB – OPSWA Division III Honorable Mention All-Ohio and Honorable Mention All-TSF. The dual-threat signal-caller threw for 2,380 yards, ran for 905 yards and accounted for 34 touchdowns (25 pass, nine rush) helping Tippecanoe (13-2) to its first ever regional title. Poronsky accounted for 400 yards of total offense in a playoff win over Western Brown (237 rush, 163 pass). He finished his career 24-5 as the Red Devils starter with 3,930 yards passing, 1,954 yards rushing, 62 touchdowns accounted for (43 pass, 19 rush) and the holder of eight school passing records.

Evan Ruzzo, Springboro, Sr, QB – OPSWA Division I Second Team All-Ohio and Honorable Mention All-TSF. Made the transition from running back to quarterback for his senior campaign and was simply outstanding. Ruzzo threw for 1,959 yards, ran for 1,085 yards and accounted for 34 touchdowns (25 pass, nine rush) as Springboro (8-4) won just its second playoff game in the last seven years. He finishes his career with 2,013 yards passing, 2,074 yards rushing, 26 passing touchdowns and 18 rushing scores.

Trei’Shaun Sanders, Xenia, Sr, RB – OPSWA Division II First Team All-Ohio and Second Team All-TSF. An offensive force for a Xenia (10-1) squad that finished the regular season undefeated for the first time in 120 years (1902). Sanders ran for 1,757 yards with 24 rushing touchdowns, three games of 249 yards-plus rushing and at least one rushing score in all 11 games for the Buccaneers. He leaves Xenia as the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards (2,565), rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns scored (28). He has signed with Notre Dame College.

Bryce Schondelmyer, Springfield, Sr, QB – OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio, GWOC OPOY and Honorable Mention All-TSF. The Division VI Arcanum transfer proved that he could flat out “ball” at the highest level. Schondelmyer lit up in his only season at Springfield (13-2) throwing for 4,630 yards (12th most in a season in Ohio history), 48 touchdown passes (tied for 21st most in a season in Ohio history) and three rushing scores helping the Wildcats to their second straight state finals appearance. Between his two schools, Schondelmyer threw for 11,521 yards (fourth most in Ohio history), 136 touchdown passes (fifth most in Ohio), had 1,766 yards rushing and 34 trips to the end zone on the ground, for his career. He has signed with Youngstown State.

Brock Short, Greenville, Sr, RB – OPSWA Division III First Team All-Ohio, MVL OPOY and Second Team All-TSF. Short was a stat sheet filler this past season with 2,118 yards rushing, 24 touchdowns on the ground, 175 yards passing, two scores through the air, 15 receptions for 221 yards, two receiving touchdowns, 2,699 all-purpose yards, 62 total tackles (45 solo) and two interceptions….Whew! He had five games of 215-plus yards rushing including nights of 372 and 349 yards on the ground. In his two varsity seasons at Greenville, he ran for 3,745 yards, racked up 4,269 all-purpose yards, had 30 receptions for 417 yards, 41 rushing touchdowns, two receiving touchdowns, two passing touchdowns, 116 total tackles and four interceptions. Short has signed with Indiana Wesleyan.
