2024 Video Snapshot: Butler
- Updated: April 17, 2024
They are ready to keep the party going in Vandalia. Butler is coming off its first winning campaign since 2018 and its first league title since 2015. The nine wins were the most by the program since they notched 10 victories in 2002. With 14 starters returning and victories in eight of their last nine contests a year ago the Aviators are soaring with confidence heading into 2024.
Division III, Region 12
2023 RECORD: 9-3, 8-1 MVL Miami
COACH: Zach Gueth (9-3 at Butler, one year; 9-3 overall, one year)
HONOR ROLL
Allen Mabson, Sr, WR/DB – One of the premier pickpockets in the Buckeye state. Mabson was named OPSWA Division III First Team All-Ohio and Third Team All-TriState Football after recording 62 total tackles with eight interceptions and three pick-sixes, as a junior. Mabson has 11 interceptions, 89 total tackles and five touchdowns (three IRs, two rec), in his career.
Tayven Crump, Sr, WR/RS – A First Team All-MVL selection last fall, Crump is primed for a monster senior year. It’s not far-fetched to think that he could easily double his career numbers. Crump has amassed 1,823 all-purpose yards (966 ret, 756 rec, 101 rush), with 54 receptions and nine touchdowns (six rec, two KRs, one rush), at the varsity level.
Braylen Crump, Sr, WR/LB – A key component in the middle of the defense, Crump is coming of a breakout year. He recorded 87 total tackles, had one-and-a-half sacks, six tackles for losses, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four pass breakups and two interceptions including a pick-six to earn Second Team All-MVL honors, as a junior. On offense, Crump reeled in 11 balls for 216 yards and a pair of scores.
Riley Seibert, Jr, DL – The future looks promising for Seibert who registered 42 total tackles with two sacks and seven tackles for losses, as a sophomore. He was named Second Team All-MVL (DL) for his efforts.
Kaiden Bates, Sr, RB – Was money when it came to getting tough yards and finding the end zone in 2023. Bates ran for 756 yards and 10 touchdowns on his way to Second Team All-MVL accolades, as a junior. He had at least 100 yards and two touchdowns rushing, three times in a four-week period last fall, giving Butler fans a glimpse of how good he can really be. Bates has 1,014 yards rushing, at the varsity level.
OTHER RETURNEES
Scott Gibson, Sr, OL/DL/LS – Does yeoman’s work up front for the Aviators in all three phases of the game. Gibson was in on 14 total tackles, as a junior.
James Hodge, Sr, OL – A returning starter that should help push the Butler offense to an even higher offensive output besting the 234.6 yards per game that they averaged a year ago.
Trevor Severance, Sr, OL/DL – Teams with Gibson and Hodge to provide senior leadership on the offensive line. The 6-foot-1, 283-pound Severance has all-district potential.
Enrique Lopez, Sr, NT – Was outstanding in the middle of the Butler d-line in his first year as a starter. Lopez was in on 74 total tackles, with seven tackles for losses and two pass breakups, as a junior.
Joey Love, Sr, DB – Back for his third season as a starter, Love is a stabilizing presence in the secondary. He has 67 total tackles, three tackles for losses, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception, in his career.
Corey Rice, Jr, WR/DB – In Weeks 6 & 7 last season Rice showed his game-changing skills with eight receptions for 234 yards and all three of his touchdowns against Tippecanoe and Fairborn. He finished the year with 20 receptions for 320 yards and the three scores.
Julius Rusk, Jr, WR/P – A big contributor on offense and special teams for the Aviators in 2023. Rusk had 19 receptions, 204 yards receiving and averaged 35.5 yards on 43 punts, dropping eight of those inside the opponents 20-yard line with a long of 60-yards.
Carson Holley, Jr, OL – The youngest of the four-returning starters on the o-line. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Holley has his sights on playing on Saturdays in 2026.
Griffyn Bradley, Jr, K – Has blossomed into a special team’s force. Bradley connected on all 39 of his extra point attempts, went 6/10 on field goal tries (long of 45-yards) for 57 points and had seven touchbacks on 56 kickoffs, as a sophomore.
NEWCOMER
Drew Suess, So, QB – Will get every opportunity to win the starting position under center and the chance to benefit from being surrounded by eight returning starters on offense.
