2024 TSF Kentucky DPOY: Austin Alexander

For the second time in the last three years Cooper (14-1) rush end Austin Alexander has been named the TriState Football Kentucky Defensive Player of the Year. The University of North Carolina signee was honored  as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati.

Alexander was the catalyst for a Jaguars defense that played a vital role in helping the school to its first undefeated regular season and second straight state finals appearance. The senior was in on 52 tackles, had 13.0 sacks, 13.0 tackles for losses, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a scoop-and-score. On offense, he reeled in 45 receptions for 706 yards and 13 touchdown catches. Those efforts saw Alexander also earn First Team All-NKY (for a fourth straight season), NKFCA Top 26, First Team All-TSF (for a third straight season) and TSF NKY DPOY finalist (for a third straight season) accolades.

Alexander ended his career with 279 tackles, 48.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, two interceptions, 158 receptions (28th most in Kentucky history), 2,522 receiving yards (40th most in Kentucky history), 39 touchdown receptions (tied 14th most in Kentucky history) and 41 touchdowns overall (39 rec, one FR, one IR).

Other 2024 TSF Kentucky DPOY finalists included seniors Kaleb Cole (Newport Central Catholic), Dillon Smith (Ryle) along with juniors Dameyn Anness (Ludlow), Ryker Campbell (Cooper), Jacob Savage (Ryle) and sophomore Gabe Williams (Highlands).

This the third finalist nomination for Austin Alexander. He is the second player (Xavier Campbell, Beechwood – 2021-’23) in the 18-year history of the award to be nominated three times as a TSF NKY DPOY Finalist. This the second nomination for Jacob Savage. Alexander and Savage become the 12th and 13th players to have been nominated for this award at least twice.
