It’s year two for Purcell Marian under head coach Chris Mobley. The Cavaliers graduate a very accomplished senior class. Mobley and staff have to put together a puzzle with some very talented but unproven players. They will make sure this team feeds off of its hunger to be successful on Friday nights. If that gets accomplished the Cavs will be back in the playoffs for a school record sixth consecutive season.
Division V, Region 20
2024 RECORD: 6-6, 3-2 MVC-Scarlet
HEAD COACH: Chris Mobley (6-6 at Purcell Marian, one year; 32-45 overall, eight years)
HONOR ROLL
Terron Vaughn, Sr, WR/DB – A gifted defensive back and the teams top returning player. Vaughn was named First Team All-MVC Scarlet as a junior. He has 62 tackles, a forced fumble and four interceptions in his career. Vaughn has picked up offers from Thomas More and Lawrence Tech.
OTHER RETURNEES
Quindel Phillips, Sr, QB/LB – Will move to quarterback, a position he has excelled at in his limited time under center. Phillips heads into his senior campaign with 702 yards passing, eight touchdown passes, 356 yards rushing, six scores on the ground, 10 receptions for 85 yards, two touchdown catches, 40 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 6.0 tackles for losses in a Cavaliers uniform.
Navin Heard, Sr, WR/DE/OLB – A wild card for the Cavs. If Heard can use his 6-foot-4, 186-pound frame to cause havoc he is going to have a big senior season. As a junior, he was in on 27 tackles, had one forced fumble, three takeaways (two FRs, one INT) and a pick-six.
Khingston Ferguson, Sr, LB – Will move off of the offensive and defensive lines to a more suitable position for his skills at linebacker.
Damarri Jackson, Sr, LB – Like Ferguson, Jackson moves to linebacker where he should thrive in a more natural role.
Riley Harrington, Sr, WR – A healthy Harrington is back after tearing his ACL mid-way through last season. He will be a focal point of the offense.
Hezekiah Powell, Jr, LB – A tough player who loves to be in the middle of the contact. Powell recorded 49 tackles, 4.5 tackles for losses, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery last fall.
TJ Younge, Sr, RB/S – Back after not playing as a junior the coaching staff sees Younge being a very big attribute to this team. He could very easily be one of the eye-catching breakout performers of 2025.
Aunnor Glenn, Jr, DB – Not the biggest kid in the world but Glenn shows his leadership through his work ethic on the field and in the weight room.
Andrew Huber, So, C – Started all 12 games as a freshman. Huber has added 40-pounds this off season in his quest to become one of the best linemen in the MVC and beyond.
