BROOKVILLE, Indiana – The East Central Trojans found themselves in a two-score hole Friday night to Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference rival Franklin County, but as quickly as they got in that hole, they dug themselves right out of it.
The Trojans, after trailing the Wildcats 14-0 after one quarter, scored 35 unanswered points to beat Franklin County 35-14.
The Wildcats started off hot, with senior QB Wyatt Bowling jetting off on a 64-yard TD run to give them an early 7-0 lead. Bowling would scamper for a 14-yard score later in the quarter, and after one it was 14-0 Franklin County.
The second quarter was a reverse of the first, however, as the Trojan defense stiffened, and the East Central offense finally got on the board, as Colton Bellman ripped off a 12-yard TD run to cut the deficit in half.
Bellman would find the endzone again before halftime, taking it in from 5 yards out for his second rushing touchdown of the half, knotting it at 14 apiece.
The Trojans would then take over in the second half, taking the opening drive of the half and putting it in the endzone on a 5-yard run by RB Will Graf to make it 21-14. The East Central defense then forced a Wildcats punt, and turned around and put it right back in the endzone, as QB Nolan Maple hit wideout Ethan Feldkamp on a 59-yard TD pass.
The teams would exchange interceptions late in the third quarter, but the Trojans made Franklin County pay for theirs, as Bellman would notch his third rushing touchdown of the game to make it 35-14 to close the quarter.
That would end up the final, as the Wildcats — with the exception of Bowling’s 239 yards of total offense and two scores – couldn’t mount any offense to keep up.
East Central moves to 3-1 on the season, while Franklin County goes to 3-1 with the loss.
