NKY Round-Up: Ryle rolls to fourth straight win

With the 2025 regular season wrapping up over the next two weekends in Kentucky, there were multiple top-25 programs from the Northern Kentucky area that made statement wins on Friday
night.

NO. 12 RYLE 41, SIMON KENTON 13
With their 41-13 win over Simon Kenton on Friday night, the Ryle Raiders claimed the no. 1 seed in their KHSAA State Playoffs class and region, while also going undefeated in district
play, topping off what has been an up-and-down year for the defending class 6A state runners-up.

Led by star senior two-way player Jacob Savage, the Raiders have been a formidable foe for any opponent all season. While the Raiders went just 5-3 for the regular season, all three of
their losses this season (to Cooper, CAL and Highlands) were by a combined total of 18 points.

Despite the three losses earlier in the year, the Raiders did not let it dictate the back half of their schedule. From weeks six through nine, Ryle has outscored their opponents 178-48.

In addition to Savage, senior quarterback Nathan Verax has been efficient in the passing game, with support from solid wideouts such as Senior Dylan Lee. Second tailback senior Dameyn Anness has provided a formidable one-two punch for the Raiders backfield.

With their sights set on a return to Lexington in December, the Raiders will finish out their regular season with Dixie Heights at home next week.

NO. 9 HIGHLANDS 42, SCOTT COUNTY 28
In what has been an incredible season for the Highlands Bluebirds, one player has stood out amongst all the rest; junior quarterback/tailback Tayden Lorenzen. The third year Highlands star
has been a tall task for opposing defensive coordinators, and during Friday night’s 42-28 victory over Scott County, Lorenzen once again led the Bluebirds to victory.

On five separate occasions, the Highlands offense, led by fellow star Rio Litmer under center, was able to get the ball within Scott County’s endzone, and from there, the Bluebirds turned the
reins over to Lorenzen and let him score.

Lorenzen’s five touchdowns on Friday night brings his tally for the 2025 regular season to an incredible 18. This does not include his three passing touchdowns as well, meaning the young
star has over 20 total touchdowns for the season.

With Lorenzen and Litmer running the Highlands offense at such an efficient pace, Highlands will look to pave the way to Lexington in pursuit of yet another state title.

NO. 13 COVINGTON CATHOLIC 52, MASON COUNTY 0
After starting their season 0-2, the Covington Catholic Colonels made a statement throughout the rest of their 2025 regular season, as they went 7-1 over their last eight weeks to finish out
their 2025 campaign at 7-3 and firmly placing themselves in the hunt for a ninth state championship.

The story of the Colonels season has been written by two players in particular; seniors Cash Harney and Dylan Gaiser. Their 52-0 dismantling of Mason County on Friday evening was no
different. Gaiser had 148 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 4 rushing attempts, for a whopping 37 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, the quarterback Harney had yet another incredible performance, throwing for 156 yards through the air with 2 touchdowns, which were thrown to seniors Logan Sanning and
Zach Brooks.

Covington Catholic’s defense was just as dominant, holding Mason County to just one first down through the entire game. Coupled with a running clock at the start of the second half, the
Colonels cruised to their seventh victory of the season, with momentum fully on their side for the state playoffs.
