TIPP CITY, oh – It was another dominating performance by Tippecanoe in the trenches. The Red Devils blanked Troy to capture a third straight league title, a 23rd consecutive regular season victory and the defense’s fourth shutout of the year.
Xavier Melton had a pair of five-yard touchdown runs for the victors. Quarterback Larkin Thomas ran for a career high 113 yards and threw for 143 yards and a touchdown pass. Melton finished the night 98 yards and now has a personal best 15 rushing touchdowns on the season.
It was the Tippecanoe that rose to the occasion holding Troy to just 48 yards rushing on 20 carries. It was the eight time that the Red Devils have held an opponent to under 100 yards rushing. With the shutout Tipp is now holding its foes to just stingy 4.4 points per contest. They have held eight teams to seven points or less and the other to 14.
