Ponitz Pummels Clark Montessori

DAYTON, oh – The Ponitz Panthers (1-0) defeated Clark Montessori Cougars (0-1) 48-6 in the opening game of the season on Thursday evening with an all-around team performance. Ponitz scored on its first three offensive possessions and never looked back.

Offensively the Panthers were led by senior running back Jamil Freeman who ran for over 100 yards. Defensively Damonte Purdue had four quarterback sacks on the evening. Both players were supported by outstanding team play by a number of players who also had outstanding games.

Ponitz would take a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Clark with a much shorter bench, put up a good fight in the second quarter, as play was more evenly matched scoring late in the second quarter. Ponitz would take a 34-6 lead going into halftime.

The score at the end of the 3rd quarter saw Ponitz take a 48-6 lead. The Panthers were relentless on the over manned Cougars. The play of the night, one for the highlight reels, by Freeman came in the third frame. Freeman was able to regain his own fumble on a pitch-out deep in the Panther zone, reverse direction and run 56 yards for the final Ponitz touchdown. A couple of plays earlier Freeman ran 86 yards downfield off a screen pass for a touchdown, only to be called back due to a Panther penalty.

The fourth quarter saw both teams play to a scoreless stalemate. Outstanding player for the Clark Cougars was Ryan Brewster. Coach Jim Place was able to get most of his bench into the game during the final quarter of the game. Next week Ponitz will face Dunbar next Thursday at Welcome Stadium.
