Not surprisingly, La Salle, Colerain and Mount Healthy among others are 2-0.
What is unexpected is that Harrison, Lakota West and Glen Este have lost their first two games, making Week 3 that much more important for those teams as they face formidable opponents.
Here are the Best Bets for Week 3 of prep football in Ohio:
La Salle (2-0) at Colerain (2-0) – You want to figure out the best game of the week? If Colerain is playing a high-caliber opponents, bet on that contest. The Cardinals are 2-0 with a three-point win over Warren Central and an OT victory over St. Xavier. Colerain gave up 436 yards in its opener but held the Bombers to 127 last week. La Salle had one dramatic win – 38-35 at Sycamore – but blew out East Central, 31-0 in Week 2. Jarell White and Tresean Smith have combined for eight rushing touchdowns to pace the Lancers.
Mount Healthy (2-0) at Glen Este (0-2) – Mount Healthy has allowed just seven points in its two wins as it navigates through a four-game road trip to open the season. Glen Este’s final season before it merges into West Clermont has not started well, as the Trojans have been outscored, 82-7 in a pair of road games. It will be the first home game for either team.
Harrison (0-2) at Anderson (2-0) – Harrison pulled to within three points late but ultimately fell to East Central by three in Week 1 then was soundly drilled at Findlay last Friday. Anderson also played a close one to open the season – beating Fenwick by one in overtime – before rolling up 61 points vs. McNicholas last Friday. The Redskins are averaging 51.5 points.
Moeller (1-1) at Mason (2-0) – What a schedule for Moeller. The Crusaders play six straight on the road and finish with their last four at home. Wayne was too much for Moeller last week, beating the Crusaders, 35-17 and piling up 480 yards. Mason has outscored its opponents, 76-20, as Matt Sora has rushed for 272 yards and Michael Koraygorodsky has scored five ground touchdowns.
Reading (1-1) at Summit Country Day (1-1) – Reading bounced back from a 24-0 loss at Roger Bacon to beat Hughes, 41-8 last week. RB Cameron Moore is averaging 8.1 yards per carry and has scored four TDs. Summit Country Day lost by a touchdown against Purcell Marian in its season opener but pounded Cincinnati College Prep, 42-0 last Friday.
Wayne (1-0) at Lakota West (0-2) – Wayne had its opened canceled because of weather but beat Moeller, 35-17 last week, piling up 482 yards of offense while allowing just 214. QB Rashad McKee was 16 of 25 for 246 yards, three touchdowns and no picks in the Warriors’ win. Lakota West is hemorrhaging points, allowing 49.5 per game in a pair of losses. QB Tony White needs to control his interceptions – he has thrown six in two games.
Badin (1-1) at Edgewood (1-1) – Badin lost to Taft by a touchdown in its opener before pounding Talawanda by 31 last Friday. The Rams have held their opponents to 247.0 yards per game. Edgewood won in Week 1, 35-7 at Monroe but fell at Franklin, 27-21 last week on a fourth-quarter touchdown.
