Ryle starts 2017 atop TSF NKY Rankings
- Updated: June 27, 2017
The Ryle Raiders are the top-ranked team in the 2017 TSF Northern Kentucky Team Rankings to start 2017. The program is coming off its first undefeated regular season and also tied the school record for wins with 12. There are no signs of this momentum stopping as the Raiders are manned for more success.
Ryle’s identity is headlined by four returning offensive linemen that will be blocking for a Kentucky Mr. Football candidate, Jake Chisolm.
“I really like what we have going into the 2017 season. It should make for an exciting year of Raiders football,” head coach Mike Engler stated.
Right out of the gate things won’t easy for top-ranked Ryle. In Week 0 they are on the road at #2 Covington Catholic. For CovCath, it is the first home opener night game in the school history. The place will be packed and the fans will be frenzied. It’s the only game on the slate between ranked squads.
There are couple surprises in the rankings. Reigning Class 1A state champion, Beechwood gets much love at #4. The Tigers take an 11-game winning streak into ’17 and all but 12 players are back from last year’s championship run. Beechwood’s lofty position in the polls is in large part because the schools below them have many question marks at key positions due to graduation.
A core of proven offensive skills players and size up front sees #8 Campbell County powering its way into the poll. The Camels nudged out Highlands and Newport Central Catholic, a pair of teams they beat a year ago, for that last spot.
