TSF Rankings Update: Week 2
- Updated: August 28, 2017
What a muddled mess the first week of the season brought. There were squads who didn’t disappoint and others that left us scratching our heads. There were so many teams who left questions about whether or not they could distinguish themselves from their peers.
Here is a look at the wreckage left behind in Week 1 and what’s in store heading into Week 2 of the season:
RANKINGS – OHIO DI
The Greater Catholic League South flexed its muscles during the opening week as all four were victorious. Three of the top four teams in our big school rankings are from the GCL South – #1 St. Xavier, #2 Elder and #4 Moeller. A trio of Greater Western Ohio Conference schools are just below them in the poll. A bad loss by #5 Wayne drops them three spots. The only matchup between ranked teams on this weekend schedule is a good one as #1 St. Xavier takes the trip over to #3 Colerain. The Cardinals loss to Division II-III #1 La Salle did not cost them in the poll…COMPLETE RANKINGS
RANKINGS – OHIO DII-DIII
In what will go down as one of the most intense defensive battles of the decade #1 La Salle held off Division I #3 Colerain, 7-3. The Lancers are for real once again. They weren’t the only one’s making a statement as #2 Trotwood-Madison dismantled the #8 Troy, 48-0. That defeat dropped the Trojans out of the rankings. It wasn’t the only loss by ranked teams. Falling five spots, #9 Turpin was foiled by then unranked and now #8 McNicholas. The Rockets will hook up with their other east side rivals #5 Anderson this week. It is they only affair between ranked teams. Also plummeting three positions is #8 Mount Healthy. Taking advantage of these losses is #6 Franklin who jumps up four places…COMPLETE RANKINGS
RANKINGS – OHIO DIV-DVII
Even though it was just the first game, the top small schools came out playing postseason-caliber football. There was a big eight point win for #4 Fenwick over now #7 CHCA. The Eagles loss cost them two spots in the poll. They will face #3 Indian Hill on Friday night. Both #5 Taft and #6 Valley View jump up two notches to surpass CHCA. Taft won an overtime thriller over then Division II-III #4 Mount Healthy. The Senators will be at #1 Wyoming on Friday. They hope to avenge last season’s 10-7 loss to the Cowboys…COMPLETE RANKINGS
RANKINGS – NKY
It has become quite clear after two weeks, if you are going to beat the top teams in northern Kentucky you are going to have to find a way to outscore them. Top ranked #1 Covington Catholic has put up 49 and 48 points in its first two contests. Behind them, #2 Simon Kenton has lit the scoreboard for 49 and 47 points in their first two wins. The Pioneers are at #5 Conner on Friday night. The top five teams all remain the same from last week in the rankings. Entering the poll is #8 Newport Central Catholic. The Thoroughbreds are at #7 Campbell County this Friday…COMPLETE RANKINGS
