Playoff Prosperity Eludes GCL Co-eds

Over the past three seasons only two Greater Catholic League Co-ed schools have made the playoffs. Six of the leagues eight teams will enter 2018 with no seniors on their roster (excluding transfers) who have played in the postseason. Alter has made the tournament in each of the past three campaigns and 17 in a row overall while Chaminade Julienne joined their party and spoiled the Knights fun last fall.

Of the eight programs that make up the GCL Co-eds, five have won state titles but there has been a drought for the conference in that regard as well. Alter was the last team to win a championship and that was nine years ago in ‘09. It has been 44 years since Fenwick captured its last crown, 32 years for Purcell Marian, 28 years for Badin and 16 years for Chaminade Julienne. Roger Bacon, Carroll and McNicholas have never brought home the big trophy.
