Schedule Sneak Peek: Elder
- Updated: April 9, 2021
Ambitious and challenging would be the best way to describe the 2021 Elder schedule but that’s just the way of life in the GCL South. The good news for the Panthers and their fans is that “The Pit” will host six very entertaining contests against teams that have big-time college football talent.
Week 2 sees a rematch of the 2019 Ohio Division I state championship as Elder travels to Columbus to face Pickerington Central. In Week 8 former Moeller head coach John Rodenberg brings his Roncalli Rebels, the reigning Indiana Class 4A state champs to the west side. The Panthers will take on five schools that won state titles over the past two seasons – St. Xavier and Roncalli in 2020 as well as Covington Catholic, La Salle and Pickerington Central who took home crowns in 2019.
The teams that Elder will play were a combined 75-25 (.750 winning %) in 2020. Nobody is going to back down or be in awe of the Panthers. They all are accustomed to playing high caliber foes on a weekly basis.
Here is a look at the 2021 Elder schedule:
Fri – 08/20/21 – vs Covington Catholic (KY) (10-2 in 2020) – 7:00 PM*

Fri – 10/08/21 – INDIANAPOLIS RONCALLI (IN)(13-1) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 10/15/21 – LIFE CHRISTIAN (VA)(2-3) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 10/22/21 – at La Salle (8-3) – 7:00 PM

FINAL TAKE: Elder will have to be tough as nails both mentally and physically to get through this slate. The majority of these opponents will finish winning records. Every victory will lead to big computer points for the Panthers. With the OHSAA expanding the playoffs from eight to 12 teams in each division going 6-4 against this schedule should get Elder into the postseason but probably not a first-round bye. How much damage they do from Week 11 on will depend on how worn down theses cats are from running this gauntlet.
