2021 Video Snapshot: Newport Central Catholic
- Updated: August 14, 2021
The life in small school football can be unforgiving and at times downright cruel. Newport Catholic Central is being tested by the Friday night gods. The Thoroughbreds who made the Class 1A state semi-finals a year will try to repeat the feat with just five seniors on the roster.
Newport Central Catholic has just 35 players suiting up this fall. The ‘Breds must avoid the injury bug. If they don’t success will be difficult to come by.
Despite the youth head coach Stephen Lickert believes the youngsters are capable of being productivity varsity players and starters. It’s just a matter of them getting reps and experience at this point.
Look for NewCath to make another deep run in the postseason despite the obstacles they face. This is a team that will get better as the season wears on. We expect the Thoroughbreds to be playing their best football come the start of the playoffs.
Class 1A, District 4
2020 RECORD: 8-3, 3-0 Class 1A, District 4
COACH: Stephen Lickert (23-13 at Newport Central Catholic, three years; 92-89 overall, 17 years)
