2022 Snapshot: Colerain
- Updated: March 22, 2022
A run came to an end last fall at Colerain. The Cardinals suffered their first losing season in 30 years. Don’t expect that to continue. With a hungry cast of veteran players, the 2022 squad is eager to start a new winning streak that last for another three decades.
“This could be a special year. We have a lot of really good kids with decent athletic ability,” head coach Shawn Cutright states. “Our offense will be very good. We have an experienced, athletic quarterback and big offensive line.”
Cutright is looking for players to emerge at linebacker and on the defensive side of the ball. If they fill those needs this is going to be a tough team to beat.
Youth and depth was a thorn in Colerain’s side last fall. The Cardinals were 1-4 in games decided by seven points or less. A talented sophomore class are now juniors and with a year under their belts at the varsity level expect this team to be more polished.
Colerain is going to have a chip on its shoulder. They will have that “nasty” attitude the program is known for and that’s bad news for Cardinals foes.
Division I, Region 4
2021 RECORD: 5-6, 5-3 GMC
COACH: Shawn Cutright (17-5 at Colerain, two years; 17-5 overall)
HONOR ROLL
Jamier Carpenter, Sr, DL – Despite injuries Carpenter was still named First Team All-GMC as a junior. The Cardinals staff is expecting a monster year out of this d-lineman.
OTHER RETURNEES
Corey Myrick, Jr, DB – Had 50 total tackles and three takeaways (two FRs, one INT) playing in the Colerain secondary at 162-pounds as a sophomore. When that 6-foot-2 frame fills out he is going to be a beast that no one is going to want to get hit by. Myrick has offers from Central Michigan and Miami (OH).
Zae Jennings, Jr, QB – One of the most dynamic players in Cincinnati. Jennings broke the Cardinals single game rushing record with 326 yards (that is saying something with all the great runners that have come through the program) and ran for five touchdowns against Elder in the playoffs. He finished his sophomore year with 1,019 yards rushing, 300 yards passing while accounting for nine touchdowns (seven rush, two pass). Jennings has offers from Central Michigan and Miami (OH).
Anthony Tate, Sr, OL – Will be called upon to be the leader of the offensive line.
Quincy Stinebuck, Jr, OL – There is a bright future ahead for this member of the Cardinals outstanding Class of 2024.
Mikale Satterwhite, RB, Jr – The opportunities for Satterwhite to shine will be in abundance. He had 57 yards rushing and five receptions in a limited role as a sophomore.
Tae Love, LB, Jr – Expect a breakout junior campaign out of Love. He has all-district talent.
NEWCOMERS
Looking to make a splash for the Cardinals this fall are senior ILB Stanley West and junior TE Ilia Gligorov. West had 11 total tackles in brief action a year ago.
