2022 Snapshot: Goshen
- Updated: April 8, 2022
What a rough ride it was for Goshen last fall. Injuries to key players sidetracked the team and very little went well. The Warriors will start fresh in 2022 with new head coach, Shane Elkin. With the optimism high this squad is out to prove that last season was just a fluke.
There is a wee bit of momentum to build upon. Goshen averaged 35.5 points over its final two contests last fall. They scored just 50 points (6.2 per game) the first eight weeks of the season.
Elkin can also play up on the fact that the Warriors seniors were part of the school’s first playoff win when they were sophomores. That group will have the opportunity to expand on their legacy at the school if they can get back to the postseason.
With a schedule that features four opponents that won at least 10 games in 2021 the road to the playoffs won’t be easy. Playing with mental toughness and a chip on its shoulder is a must for Goshen if it wants to have a successful campaign. It’s all on the Warriors to put in the work to get that accomplished.
Division III, Region 12
2021 RECORD: 1-9, 1-4 SBAAC American
COACH: Shane Elkin (0-0 at Goshen, first year; 20-50 overall, seven years)
HONOR ROLL
Tyler Kilgore, Sr, DB – The secondary will look for guidance from Kilgore. He was named Honorable Mention All-SBAAC American after tallying 48 total tackles as a junior.
Camden Barrial, Jr, WR/DB – One of the Warriors top offensive threats. Barrial had 24 receptions for 244 yards and four touchdowns on his way to Honorable Mention All-SBAAC American accolades as a sophomore.
OTHER RETURNEES
Nick Bucksath, Sr, DE – Will be called upon to be a leader on defense. Bucksath had 17 total tackles in our games a year ago.
Craig McKinney, Sr, TE/ILB – Was a beast on defense when he was healthy. McKinney had 52 total tackles (40 solo) in five games as a junior.
Derrick Johnson, Jr, OL/DL – There is a tremendous upside for this young lineman. Johnson has all-district potential.
