A shutdown corner is a luxury to have in high school football. In fact, having the ability to lockdown one side of the field is key on any level of football. The Withrow Tigers have that luxury. In the pros they call it an island. On Madison Road in Hyde Park, they more specifically call it Nichols Island after their superb and stingy corner Terhyon Nichols.

The 5’10, 165-pound defensive back has made a name for himself in the secondary. Opposing quarterbacks and coaches alike steer clear of putting anything into the air in his vicinity. Possessing the football is far too important and Nichols is keen on takeaways. His uncanny ball skills and cerebral field knowledge make him that way. Nichols led a tiger defense that gave up only 6.4 PPG during a seven-game win streak down the stretch a season ago. Now he’s back for more.

The swift corner tallied 59 TKLS, 3 TFL, and 3 FFS last fall. Only five times did opposing offenses challenge him in the passing game. Again, going into a no-fly zone is not the best of options. As a junior Nichols was named OPSWA DII first team ALL-Ohio and first team all CMAC. He also checked in on second team ALL-TSF. His skills, stats, and accolades made him a highly sought after and coveted prospect.

Nichols committed to the University of Kentucky on July 5th and the Wildcats will be getting a player willing to work and capable of making an immediate impact. Before he heads off to help the Wildcats in blue next year in the SEC, he’ll first look to lead his own group of cats in orange and black. The Tigers will have one of the most talented teams in the state and Nichols plans to lead them to a championship.
