2023 Video Snapshot: Winton Woods

There is unfinished business on West Kemper Road. Winton Woods went a perfect 10-0 in the 2022 regular season for the first time in school history before falling to league rival Kings in the third round of the playoffs and ending its hopes for a shot at repeating as Division II state champions.

A Warriors roster that is loaded with talent and experience is well-positioned to make another deep run into November and eventually playing for the programs fourth title, the first weekend of December.

HONOR ROLL
Van George
, Sr, QB – Everything you want in a quarterback. George is a leader and a winner. He threw for 2,012 yards, had 24 passing touchdowns and two rushing scores in 2022. He was named OPSWA Division II Third Team All-Ohio for his efforts. George has offers from Avila, West Liberty, Sterling, Wheeling and Culver-Stockton.

Delan Massey-Wright, Jr, DL – A pleasant surprise as a sophomore. Massey-Wright tallied 64 total tackles, had 10.0 sacks and 20.0 tackles for losses on his way to OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio and Second Team All-TriState Football honors.

Ly’vi’el Waters, Sr, TE – A big target at 6-foot-3, 230-pounds. Waters had 19 receptions for 301 yards and two touchdowns on his way to First Team All-ECC accolades as a junior. His offers include Central Michigan, Grand Valley and Morgan State.

Justin Hill, Jr, LB – 6-4/215 – The real deal at linebacker and we all get to watch him for another two years. Hill recorded 42 total tackles, had five-and-a-half sacks, 10.0 tackles for losses and an 80-yards pick-six against Loveland as a sophomore. He earned OPSWA Division II Second Team All-Southwest District for his work. One of Ohio’s top college prospects in the Class of 2025 Hill has offers from Alabama, Boston College, Illinois, Kentucky, Marshall, Michigan, Michigan State, Pitt, Purdue, Oregon, Rutgers, USC, Tennessee, Toledo and West Virginia.

TJ Buckman, Sr, LB – A very underrated linebacker Buckman was a Second Team All-ECC performer as a junior. He recorded 40 total tackles, had a sack, seven tackles for losses and two fumble recovery in 2022.

Cameron Jackson, Sr, DL – 6-2/235 – Teams with Massey-Wright to make one of the most formidable interior defensive lines in the state of Ohio. Jackson was a Second Team All-ECC selection as a junior after tallying 29 total tackles, four-and-a-half sacks and 12.0 tackles for losses. Jackson picked up his first offer from Indianapolis.

Tra’Mar Harris, Sr, ATH – Mr. Excitement with the ball in his hands. Harris reeled in 53 catches for 806 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior. He was named Second Team All-ECC. Harris verbally committed to Purdue.

OTHER RETURNEES
Raphael Greene, Jr, OL – Wreck it “Big Ralph” is primed to take his game to the next level in 2023. The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Greene has offers from Akron, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky, Marshall, UMass, Miami (OH), Pitt, Purdue, Toledo and West Virginia.

Charles Johnson, Sr, ATH – A key member of the Warriors defensive secondary. Johnson registered 40 total tackles, had a sack, three tackles for losses and five passes defended a year ago.

Henry Johnson Jr., Sr, OL – One of the true leaders of the offense. The 6-foot-4, 243-pound Johnson Jr. is back for his second year as a starter. He has an offer from Morgan State.

NEWCOMERS
Zae Jennings, Sr, ATH – A transfer from Colerain, the athletic Jennings will line up in a myriad of positions for the Warriors. He was named OPSWA Division I Second Team All- Southwest District (QB) as a junior. Jennings heads into his final campaign with 723 yards passing, 1,783 yards rushing, and 20 touchdowns accounted for (15 rush, five pass) in his career. He has verbally committed to West Virginia.

Erick Morris Jr., Jr, LB – The defense gets a boost with the addition of Morris Jr., who was in on 52 total tackles, with a fumble recovery and an interception as a sophomore at Northwest, last season. He was named First Team All-SWOC for his work.

Bryshawn Brown, Jr., QB – A year away from being the starter at quarterback, the rifle-armed Brown will still see plenty of action in 2023. He has an offer from Kentucky.

KJ Brown, Jr, OLB – A transfer from Monroe, Brown has a seen his stock rise this offseason. 6-foot-3, 220-pound pass rusher has offer from Kentucky and UMass. Brown had 71 total tackles, three-and-a-half sacks, with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for Monroe last fall earning SWBL East Honorable Mention acclaim.

Seaonta Steele Jr., Jr, ATH – Looking forward to seeing his first extended playing time at the varsity level. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Steele Jr. picked up offers from Kentucky and UMass this offseason.

Isaiah Garrett, Fr, RB – Will be part of the Warriors rotation in the backfield as a freshman. Garrett already has offers from Kentucky and Michigan.
