CLARKSVILLE, indiana – It will go down as one of the most memorable nights in Milan football history. The Indians went on the road and knocked off reigning state champion Providence to capture the schools second ever regional title and first since 1996. They claimed the victory with a stellar defensive performance.
Milan churned out 286 yards and three scores on the ground. Senior quarterback Wyatt Marsh led way with 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns rushing. Freshman Beckett Langferman chipped in with another 75 yards and a touchdown. He now has 1,054 yards rushing on the year.
Providence came into the contest averaging 40.7 points per game and had scored at least 28 in every outing this season. The Milan defense shut the Pioneers out in the second half and snared three interceptions, two by Micha Norman.
During the Indians current five-game winning streak they are allowing just 7.0 points per contest. They haven’t given up more than 14 points in any of those affairs.
Head coach Ryan Langferman was a player on the ‘96 Milan regional championship squad and now he has two sons Grant and Beckett on this team. Langferman was asked about his emotions after the victory. “My emotions in both moments are actually very similar. There’s nothing quite like seeing a small community rally around its school and team. That feeling has stayed with me since 1996 and it was incredible to feel it again. Experiencing it with my two sons makes it even more special!”
Langferman, who is in his 18th year at the helm of his alma mater, wasn’t done giving the credit where it was deservedly due, on this moment. “Our family truly bleeds black and gold. My wife Carly and our three boys have made a lot of sacrifices so I can continue coaching the Milan Indians. I am grateful they’re getting their chance to make their own special memories, now.”
