MILAN, indiana – An end to a magical season for Milan has come to an end. The Indians just didn’t have enough firepower to keep up with visiting South Putnam who cruised to a 40-7 victory on Friday night. The Eagles are in the state title game for the first time since 2002. They won their only state championship in 1986.
Drew Cline threw for three touchdowns and ran for another lead South Putnam. The junior also had 226 yards passing and 55 yards rushing. Cline’s classmates, Ty Benton ran for 120 yards and a score as well as Bransyn Ensor caught three balls for 108 yards and a touchdowns.
Milan, which captured its second regional crown last week, was looking for its first ever appearance in the state championship game. The Indians started 2-4 then reeled off five straight victories to wind up in this semistate battle.
