2021 Video Snapshot: St. Xavier

Everyone will be gunning for reigning Division I state champion, St. Xavier. The Bombers will look to defend their title with a very experienced group of returning starters.

The Bombers have checked off quite a few boxes in the last 17 years under head coach Steve Specht including the programs first four state championships. Now St. Xavier looks to mark off another accomplishment by winning back-to-back titles for the first time in school history.

HONOR ROLL
Brogan McCaughey, Sr, QB – Threw for 2,708 and 28 touchdowns in 10 games helping St. Xavier to the 2020 Division I state championship. He was named OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio for his efforts. McCaughey has offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami (OH), Ohio, Penn, Toledo, Tulane, Western Michigan, Yale and Youngstown State.

Charles Kellom, Sr, RB – Led the Bombers with 14 touchdowns (10 rush, four rec) in 2020. Kellom also ran for 855 yards and had 22 receptions for 250 yards on his way to OPSWA Division I Second Team All-Southwest-District accolades. He has offers from Brown, Dartmouth, Eastern Kentucky, Lehigh and Grand Valley State.

Brian Parker II, Sr, OL – The leader of the offensive line. Parker helped the Bombers find the end zone 51 times in 2020. He was named OPSWA Division I Second Team All-Ohio for his work. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Parker has verbally committed to Duke University.

Cameron Collins, Sr, OL – Did an excellent job protecting St. Xavier quarterbacks who threw for 273.6 yards per game and 34 touchdowns in 2020. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Collins was named First Team All-GCL South as a junior. Collins has verbally committed to Air Force.

Mason Rohmiller, Sr, K – Was outstanding as a junior. Rohmiller connected on 52/53 extra points and 11/13 field goals for 85 points on his way to OPSWA Division I Second Team All-Southwest District honors.

Sam Buerkle, Sr, DL – The anchor of the defensive line. The 6-foot-4, 246-pound Buerkle recorded 42 total tackles, had four sacks and a fumble recovery, as a junior. He was named First Team All-GLC South. Buerkle has offers from Brown and Penn.

Eli Kirk, Sr, DB – The dean of the secondary. Kirk is back for his third year as a starter. He was named First Team All-GLC South a year ago. Kirk has registered 110 total tackles, snared four interceptions including a pick-six and racked up 215 interception return yards in his career. He has offers from Eastern Illinois, Valparaiso and Findlay.

Grant Lyons, Sr, LB – A tenacious defender. Lyons had 54 total tackles and six sacks including a state championship game record four sacks, as a junior. He was named First Team All-GCL South for his work. Lyons has verbally committed to Miami (OH).

Brady Koch, Sr, OL 6-2 – A returning starter on the offensive line. Koch was a Second Team All-GCL South selection, as a junior.

OTHER RETURNEES
Alex Kemper, Sr, DB – Was solid in his first year as a starter in 2020. Kemper tallied 34 total tackles with three takeaways (two FRs, one INT). He has offers from Dayton and Valparaiso.

Max Klare, Sr, TE – Will play a pivotal role on special teams and in the passing game. Klare had seven receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown in six games, as a junior. He has verbally committed to Duke.

Terrell McFarlin, Sr, WR – Had 45 receptions for 534 yards and six touchdowns as the Bombers third option at receiver last season. McFarlin has offers from Valparaiso, Capital and Notre Dame College.

Luke Vrsansky, Sr, RB – An integral part of the Bombers offense. Vrsansky has amassed 964 all-purpose yards (608 rush, 139 rec, 217 ret), 16 receptions and seven rushing touchdowns in his career.

Jack Renneker, Sr, OL – A returning starter on the o-line. Renneker helped clear the path as the Bombers racked up 402.4 yards of total offense per game in 2020.

Ryan Nolan, Sr, QB/DB – Will start in the secondary and serve as the Bombers very capable backup quarterback. Nolan threw for 575 yards with six touchdown passes and 21 total tackles as a junior.
