2022 Video Snapshot: Lakota East
- Updated: July 25, 2022
We are going to find out a lot about a young Lakota East team right out of the gate. The first three teams on the Thunderhawks schedule went a combined 30-8 and each averaged 30-plus points per game in 2021. With just three returning starters on defense a daunting task lies ahead for a group of youngsters who are eager to shine for the first time under Friday night lights.
Lakota East returns the foundation of what should be one of the best rushing attacks in the Greater Miami Conference. The Thunderhawks will use that strength to their advantage to shorten games by limiting their opponents possessions and keeping their defense off the field as much as possible, especially early on.
Lakota East hasn’t had a losing season since 2015. The seniors have the opportunity to become the first class in program history to make the playoffs three years in a row. A Thunderhawks squad with motivation is going to make life very difficult for GMC foes.
Division I, Region 4
2021 RECORD: 7-4, 6-2 GMC
COACH: Rick Haynes (67-58 at Lakota East, 12 years; 67-58 overall)
HONOR ROLL
Austin Siereveld, Sr, OL – One of the nation’s top offensive linemen. Siereveld has a very noticeable “speak softly and carry a big stick” on-field presence. The Ohio State commit was named OPSWA Division I Second Team All-Ohio and First Team All-TriState Football as a junior. Buckeyes fans will be reminded of former offensive lineman Josh Meyers when they watch Siereveld play.
Eric Davis, Sr, RB – One of the unheralded gems in the GMC. Davis was a Second Team All-GMC selection after running for 915 yards and eight touchdowns in 2021.
Harrison Bucheit, Sr, TE/LB – A returning starter who will lead by example on defense. Bucheit tallied 45 total tackles on his way to Second Team All-GMC honors as a junior.
Harrison Clute, Sr, C – An anchor up front. Clute helped pave the way for a Thunderhawks offense that averaged 232.6 yards per game on the ground with 30 touchdowns rushing last fall. He was named Second Team All-GMC for his work.
Aidan Siereveld, Sr, OG – A returning starter who teams with his brother and Clute to form a rock-solid o-line. Siereveld garnered Second Team All-GMC accolades as a junior.
Justin Green, Sr, DB – One of the best defensive backs in the GMC and that is saying something. Green was in on 30 total tackles as a junior. He has offers from Army, Air Force, BGSU and Indiana State.
NEWCOMERS
Senior QB Aidan Troutman and junior QB Jude Prather will get their shot at winning the starting job under center. Troutman took snaps in five games as a junior and ran for touchdowns against Hamilton and Oak Hills.
