2021 Snapshot: Connersville

For most teams 2-7 is bad season but that wasn’t necessarily the case for Connersville last fall. The Spartans ended a 26-game losing streak with their first victory since September 22nd, 2017. They also picked up their first playoff win since 2012 and just their sixth in program history. That gives second-year head coach Justin Jackson a base to build upon and hopes for a brighter future.

Connersville also lost three games by seven, three and two points. Flip those scores and the Spartans would have had a winning campaign. That’s how close they were to an incredible turnaround.

“We started a lot of underclassmen last year which gave them a lot of experience that will pay off this season. We are trying to build an attitude in the weight room and in this offseason. Having missed out on the majority of our 2020 offseason due to COVID, this is the first time our coaching staff has had the ability to develop our players,” Jackson states.

Things are going in the right direction. This will be a team to keep an eye on over the next two campaigns under Jackson’s tutelage. Connersville isn’t the Friday night pushover that they used to be.

Class 4A, District 21
2020 RECORD: 2-7, 0-2 EIAC 4A
COACH: Justin Jackson (2-7 at Connersville, one year; 2-7 overall)

Chad Owens
, Sr, RB/DB – A two-time Honorable Mention Class 4A All-EIAC as a defensive back, Owens is the leader of the Spartans secondary.

Braxton Myers, Jr, WR/LB – A member of a very promising Connersville junior class. Myers was named Honorable Mention Class 4A All-EIAC as a linebacker in 2020. He was also named Honorable Mention Class 4A All-EIAC at receiver as a freshman.

Gavin Lynch, Sr, RB/DB – A two-way stud that is very productive on both sides of the ball. Lynch was an Honorable Mention Class 4A All-EIAC selection (DB) as a junior.

Carter DeBoard, Jr, RB/DB – Part of a secondary that is one of the strengths of the Spartans team. Look for him to play an even larger role on offense this fall. DeBoard was named Honorable Mention Class 4A All-EIAC (DB) a year ago.

Gavin Pearson, Jr, QB – Really took off in his first year as a starter at quarterback. Pearson was named Honorable Mention Class 4A All-EIAC (QB) as a sophomore. He still has his best days in front of him.

Brayden Pearson, Jr, WR – A pleasant surprise in 2020 and one of the team’s top threats in the passing attack. Pearson was an Honorable Mention Class 4A All-EIAC (WR) selection a year ago.

(6-36) – Twenty-two times in the last 27 years Connersville has bowed out of the playoffs in Week 10.
